TRACK FACTS
Low barriers (1–6) are strongly favoured at sprint distances due to the tight turning track. Wide draws at 1200m are a significant disadvantage.
Caulfield's tight turning track is a punter's minefield at sprint distances — wide barriers are a serious disadvantage. Focus on horses drawn inside 8 at 1200m and 1400m, and favour on-pace runners who can slot in early rather than those relying on a late run.

CAULFIELD RACING FAQ
ABOUT CAULFIELD RACING TIPS
Caulfield Racecourse is one of Melbourne's premier metropolitan venues, operated by the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) and home to the prestigious Caulfield Cup — a key lead-up to the Melbourne Cup. Located in the inner southeast suburb of Caulfield, the track is a left-handed circuit known for its tight turns and relatively short 350-metre straight.
The compact 1800-metre circumference creates a track that strongly favours on-pace runners and horses drawn in low barriers, particularly at sprint distances. Barrier draws are arguably more important at Caulfield than any other major Australian track — at 1200 metres, a horse drawn in barrier 14 or wider faces a near-impossible task in a full field without significant luck in running.
Caulfield is central to Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival, hosting a series of key lead-up races in September and October including the Underwood Stakes, Caulfield Stakes, Caulfield Guineas, and the Caulfield Cup itself. The track also hosts the Blue Diamond Stakes in February — Australia's richest two-year-old race outside of the Golden Slipper.
For form analysts, Caulfield form is highly transferable to other tight tracks such as Moonee Valley and Rosehill. Horses that have won at Caulfield over 1600m–2000m are well-suited to the Caulfield Cup trip, and the track's demanding nature means fitness and race fitness are paramount.
