UNDERSTANDING CONFIDENCE SCORES IN RACING TIPS

Learn how our confidence scoring system works and what different score ranges mean for your racing analysis.

Understanding Confidence Scores in Racing Tips

Our confidence scoring system rates each selection from 0 to 100, providing a clear measure of conviction behind every tip. This guide explains how to interpret these scores.

The Confidence Scale

90-100: Elite Confidence

These are rare selections where multiple strong factors align. The horse has outstanding recent form, a top jockey-trainer combination, ideal track and distance conditions, and a favourable barrier draw. Expect no more than 1-2 of these per week.

75-89: High Confidence

Strong selections backed by solid form analysis. The horse has clear winning credentials with most factors in its favour. These represent our strongest regular tips.

60-74: Moderate Confidence

Good selections with genuine winning chances but some question marks. Perhaps the horse is stepping up in class, returning from a spell, or facing a tricky barrier draw.

40-59: Speculative

Selections with upside potential but significant unknowns. These might include first-starters with strong trial form, horses on the improve, or those suited by a specific track condition change.

Below 40: Low Confidence

Rarely published. These would only appear in very open races where no runner stands out clearly.

How Confidence Scores Are Calculated

Our analysis considers multiple weighted factors:

FactorWeightDescription
Recent Form30%Last 3-5 race performances and margins
Track/Distance20%Historical performance at the specific venue and distance
Jockey/Trainer15%Current strike rates and combination success
Class Assessment15%Whether the horse is well-placed at this level
Barrier & Weight10%Starting position and weight carried
Track Condition10%Suitability to the expected surface condition

Using Confidence Scores Wisely

  • Don't chase every high-confidence tip — even 90+ rated selections don't win every time
  • Look for value in the 60-74 range — these often represent the best analytical opportunities
  • Track our performance — review how different confidence bands perform over time
  • Consider the race type — confidence scores in maiden races carry more uncertainty than in Group races with proven performers
